All you need to know about Local Initiatives.
Hey. Do you think your local government – the Mayor’s or County Executive’s administration and the part-time members of your city or county council… Do you really think they’re paying attention and making a difference?
Are they representing you or some special interests that helped them get elected? What are their priorities? How hard are they working to make your community a better place to live and work? Other than your voting every so often, is anyone listening to your concerns? Short of running for office yourself, how do you make a difference?
Well, we don’t have a good answer to any of those questions. What we do know is that sometimes ordinary people – That’s us. – will be inclined to see what we can do to help, to level the playing field in favor of common sense solutions that aren’t going to happen on their own.
So, with little rhyme or reason, every once and a while we hear from people and take it upon ourselves to use our limited resources and special skills to turn up the volume in favor of doing the logical and right thing.
That’s what Local Initiatives is all about. We read the paper. Watch the news. Most importantly, people email us and tell us about stuff. And we do what we can to make a difference. We’re apolitical. For us, it’s not about influencing elections. It’s about identifying and do our best to resolve problems. Specific, reasonably solvable problems, not world peace. Do we always accomplish our objectives? Of course not, but, at the end of the day, at least we feel like we gave it a shot and did our best.
So if you need anything – mostly in Maryland where we’re based – and you or your community need help, put your fingers in the right places on your keyboard and send us an email to Info@LocalInitiatives.org. We’ll read what you have to say. Keep it in confidence, of course. Sometimes publish it anonymously to see if anyone else cares enough to leave a comment. Maybe start a conversation.
But honestly, for the most part, you’ll never hear from us. (We all have day jobs too, just like most of you, that we need to do and protect.) But then occasionally, we’ll sit around and one of us will say, “Maybe we can help with that.” Either way, it only takes a few minutes and some electrons on your screen to raise your hand, figuratively speaking.
And, occasionally, we’ll write posts to let you know what we’re working on in case you’d like to help.
That’s it. We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks for dropping by.
